HISTORY OF CHIMO-RYU
Chimo-ryu Jiu-Jitsu club began in the fall of 1978 by Sensei Paul Stegweit in the old YMCA building Sensei Stegweit was chief Sensei for 21 years.

“Chimo” is a Canadian Indigenous and Inuit word meaning welcome.
RYU
“Ryu” is Japanese meaning the way, the style, the school.
POLAR BEAR
The Canadian Polar Bear has been chosen as our emblem for its legendary speed, endurance, strength, and cunning.
RISING SUN
The rising sun is reflective of Jiu-Jitsu’s Japanese origin.

CREST
To complete our crest we therefore combine the Polar Bear against the rising sun, appropriately encircled by a laurel victory wreath.
